Notes from the host
An editor's note
Tau · 12 May 2026
Most of the tools we use to organise a gathering treat the event like logistics. A time, a place, a list of names. They are good at that. They have to be.
Tova is not that. Or it is that, but it is also more. It is the shape of the night before the night, the way you think about who will sit next to who, what the room sounds like when the last person leaves and only the people who really wanted to stay are still there. The small editorial decisions that make the difference between a dinner you remember and a dinner you forget.
We are making a tool for that. And we are making a place to write about it.
Stories is where the second part lives. Pieces from hosts about the gatherings they planned and how they planned them. Notes on the craft. The unexpected guest who became the centre of the evening. The drink that worked, the toast that did not. The Sunday lunch that quietly became the thing everyone looks forward to all week.
It will be slow. We are not racing. The first pieces will come from us and from a small handful of people whose gatherings we love. Later, from anywhere.
If you host something you are proud of, write to us at hello@tova.co.nz. We would love to hear about it.
